Seven men charged over dissident march in Lurgan

Seven men have been charged with offences related to a dissident demonstration in Lurgan on Saturday.

A total of nine men were arrested by the PSNI during the march.

Two of those arrested have been released on bail.

Five men, aged 48, 39, 36 and two aged 30, have been charged with taking part in an un-notified public procession and wearing clothing or having articles or having articles as a member or supporter of a proscribed organisation.

A sixth man aged 28 has been charged with three counts of assault on police; taking part in an un-notified public procession and wearing clothing or having articles as member or supporter of a proscribed organisation.

These six will appear before Lisburn Magistrates Court on Monday April 2.

A seventh man aged 44 has been charged with two counts of obstructing police and assault on police, and will appear before Craigavon Magistrates' Court on Friday April 27.

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

The two other men arrested were aged 47 and 24.

The 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault on police, resisting police, taking part in an un-notified public procession and wearing clothing or having articles as member or supporter of proscribed organisation has also been released on bail pending further police enquiries.
