Seven months jail for bus driver who killed mum-of-four Linda Stewart

By Gillian Halliday

A man whose runaway bus killed a mother-of-four has been sentenced to 15 months - to serve half in jail - after appearing at Craigavon Crown Court.

James Johnston (35) from Killowen Grange in Lisburn had pleaded guilty to causing the death of Linda Stewart, who died in December 2014, at a previous hearing last month.

The mother-of-four was trapped by the unmanned vehicle, which mounted the kerb and hit a wall at Lisburn bus depot.

He had been due to stand trial last month, however, at the last minute he changed his plea to guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence.

The father-of-one will serve half his sentence on licence.
