Sex charge over fake model agency

By Cate McCurry

A man arrested in Co Tyrone over a fake modelling agency will appear in court today charged with causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent and other offences.

The 23-year-old was detained by PSNI officers in Cookstown yesterday.

The man is also accused of improper use of electronic communications to cause anxiety.

A police spokeswoman said the fake modelling agency was operated via social media.

He is due to appear at Limavady Magistrates Court.

All charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

It comes months after a number of teenage girls were targeted by a sinister social media account posting as a modelling agency.

A fake ACA Models account was set up on the image messaging app Snapchat and targeted teens as young as 14.

The recipients were told they could earn anywhere between £450 and £55,000.
