Shankill United shock
SHANKILL UNITED football club has been left "shocked" and "devastated" by the sudden death of Islandmagee player Stuart Ross during Saturday's match.
Stuart (24) collapsed and died from a suspected heart attack around 20 minutes into his competitive debut for Islandmagee II against Shankill United II.
Players from both teams tried to save the young man, administering CPR until an ambulance arrived, but doctors could not revive him.
Jackie Pollack, secretary for Shankill United said: "This tragic event has left our club in total shock; our players who assisted and witnessed everything unfold have been left devastated.
"All football clubs have their rivals on the pitch but when tragedy strikes, like it did to young Stuart, the football family come together as one. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ross family circle and the entire Islandmagee Football Club."
