Shock after 'suspicious' Banbridge death - man arrested

The death of a man in Banbridge is being treated as suspicious by police.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody.

The body of a man, aged in his 50s, was discovered at a property in Millmount Court in the town at around 4.50pm on Monday.

A post mortem examination will take place to determine the exact cause of death.

SDLP Councillor Seamus Doyle expressed his shock and sadness.

He said: “There is real shock and sadness in Banbridge following the death of a man in Millmount Court. I understand that the Police are treating this as suspicious and a man has been arrested in remains in Police custody.

“My thoughts, and the thoughts of my colleagues, are with the man’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“I would urge anyone who has any information to contact the Police or Crimestoppers.”

Upper Bann DUP MLA Carla Lockhart offered her condolences to the family.

"I have ongoing communication with the PSNI locally and they have assured me that this is an active investigation into this death.

"I am sure the family would want some privacy to mourn the loss of their family member and our thoughts are very much with them at this sad time.”

Police are appealing for anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact them in the incident room at Banbridge Police Station. 

Detectives are keen to speak with anyone who was in the area of Millmount Court between Saturday July 7 and Monday July 9 who noticed anything suspicious.
