An investigation has been launched following the sudden deaths of two people in west Belfast.

The bodies of a man and a woman were discovered at a house in the Woodside Drive area of Dunmurry on Thursday afternoon, police have confirmed.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Post-mortem examinations are expected to be carried out in due course.

Sinn Fein MLA Orlaithi Flynn said there was "shock and sadness" in the local community after the discovery.

“Councillor Stephen Magennis and I have spoken with the family and neighbours of the two people who tragically lost their lives in Poleglass," the west Belfast MLA said.

“The family and local residents have asked us to appeal on their behalf for everyone to respect their privacy at this devastating time.

“There is a sense of shock and sadness in the community. We send our sincere condolences to the family at this extremely difficult time."
