Shock as woman's body is discovered in water at Northern Ireland beach
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a woman, thought to be aged in her 50s.
The woman's body was recovered from the water at Waterfoot Beach in the Glens of Antrim on Monday morning.
Both police and coastguard personnel were involved in the recovery operation.
Police said a post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of the woman's death.
However, at this stage the woman's death is not believed to be suspicious.
Local Sinn Fein councillor Cara McShane said the discovery of the woman's body had shocked the entire community in the small seaside village.
"It's very sad," the councillor told the Belfast Telegraph last night.
"Everyone's thoughts and prayers must go out to the poor woman's family.
"They will be devastated by this awful news."
Ms McShane added: "This dreadful tragedy has been a huge shock for the close-knit local community."
