Shock daylight raid on Belfast jewellers

A Belfast jewellery shop was robbed in broad daylight yesterday as city centre workers looked on in horror.

Ellison's Wholesale Jewellers on Donegall Street in the Cathedral Quarter area of the city was targeted by two men.

A police Land Rover, police cars and ambulances arrived on the scene later. A 17-year-old was detained a short distance from the scene.

A police spokesman said: “The incident is believed to have happened shortly before 1.50pm when two males wearing hooded tops and yellow coloured gloves entered the premises.

“They stole an amount of jewellery before making off in a dark coloured car.”
