Shop owners warned over money changing scam

The PSNI have warned shop owners to beware of a money changing scam currently being operated in the Craigavon area.

Police are warning that the scam involves a group of people swarming into a business and asking for larger notes to be changed into smaller ones.

Members of staff are then confused by the individuals changing the specification for the types of notes they are asking for a number of times - and leave with more cash than they started with.

The PSNI have advised business owners to refuse the transaction if anyone comes into their businesses asking to change larger monetary notes into smaller ones.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, a worker from a local shop in Craigavon said that over the past week there had been an increase in the number of people coming in asking for £50 notes to be changed - but that they did not think a scam had been carried out.
