Shop targeted by axe-wielding vandal

A beleaguered Belcoo grocery store has been ramraided for the third time since Christmas by a hatchet-wielding vandal who wrought carnage on the shop.

CCTV footage has revealed how Cox’s Supermarket on the Garrison Road sustained significant damage when a Mitsubishi Shogun jeep was driven through the shop front on March 17, before the driver began spraying kerosene over goods and vandalising refrigerator cabinets and freezers.

Inspector Roy Robinson told the Fermanagh Herald that in his 30-plus years in the force, he had never seen such a concerted attack on any premises before.

A defiant Noel Cox, who runs the business, stressed he “won’t be quitting” despite the fact that the latest incident is the 15th in a spree of criminal acts against the premises and staff in just two years.
