Shops set for £270k facelift to help trade

By Lesley-Anne McKeown

Sixteen shops and businesses in Londonderry are to be given a facelift as part of a major regeneration scheme.

Some £268,300 has been allocated to properties in the Upper Strand Road and Clooney Terrace areas.

Work will include the installation of new frontages, painting, window replacement and repairs to provide uniformity.

Communities Minister Paul Givan said he hoped that the initiative would help boost trade and increase the vibrancy of the areas.

Mayor of Derry Hilary McClintock added: "This funding will have a significant impact on businesses in both the Waterside and Cityside areas of Londonderry.

"At a time when a lot of businesses face economic challenges, these improvements will assist in transforming some of the city's busiest areas and encourage other property owners to maintain the general upkeep of our commercial premises."
