By Michael Bashford

Sport Relief is back — and it’s coming to Belfast.

The city is set to host one of Sport Relief’s flagship Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Miles on Sunday, March 21, and needs local people to show their support by entering now at

The Belfast Mile kicks off at Albert Clock, with the route taking runners through the city centre, down High Street, past City Hall and onto Donegall Square North, before crossing the finish line in Custom House Square. The Sport Relief weekend is taking place from Friday, March 19, to Sunday, March 21.

Newtownards TV presenter Christine Bleakley pledged her support for the event.

“I’m rising to the challenge for Sport Relief this year by waterskiing the English Channel,” she said.

“So why don’t you do your bit by signing up to the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile? It’s a great way to have fun with your friends and family and raise money for disadvantaged people in the UK and some of the world’s poorest countries.”

Coverage from the Mile events will be shown during The Sport Relief Mile Show on Sunday, March 21, on BBC One, with those participating becoming the stars of the show.
