'Sickening' sex attack on woman in Armagh

A woman has been seriously sexually assaulted in Armagh.

The 20-year-old was attacked in the Callan Bridge area of the city on Wednesday at around 12.30am.

Sinn Fein councillor Gareth Keating described the incident as a "deeply upsetting, despicable and sickening attack against a vulnerable young woman".

Mr Keating said while he was unaware of the full details of the matter and did not want to cause undue panic, he urged people to be mindful of their personal safety at all times.

"My thoughts and those of the local community are with the young woman at this undoubtedly difficult time," he added.

"I hope this young woman receives help, support and advice at this time."

Mr Keating reiterated calls for anyone with information which may assist in the apprehension of the attacker to come forward and contact the police.

Detectives want to hear from anyone who was in the Callan Bridge Road, Nursery Road and Mullacreevie areas between midnight on Tuesday and about 1am on Wednesday.
