Singer Peter Corry set to marry after Paris proposal

By Laura Abernethy

Peter Corry is to marry long-term girlfriend Fleur Mellor after a romantic proposal in Paris.

Fleur had surprised the singer, actor and producer for his 50th birthday with a trip to the French capital, and as he had been thinking about proposing for several months, he decided it was the perfect place to pop the question.

Congratulations have been pouring in from across the world after Fleur said yes.

It comes just months after she starred as the girl at the centre of a romantic proposal on a beach, with 'Marry Me' written in lights, in a TV advert for Belfast jeweller Lunn's, but Peter insisted he had been thinking about it long before she was cast.

Peter said: "It wasn't the advert that gave me the inspiration. It was planned!

"We've been together over six years now and I was sort of thinking of proposing to her, so I thought, why not do it in Paris?

"I knew we were going to have the week together. Originally we were meant to be in London so I was going to do it then, but as a birthday present Fleur said she would take me to Paris and she had a few surprises for me, so I thought she would have a surprise from me as well."

Peter got down on one knee over dinner and was delighted when the 35-year-old dancer and choreographer said yes.

"It was such a relief for me when the word yes came back. We're both delighted," he said.

The couple have been living in London and working on a Christmas show called The Music Box since 2009, but Peter said Fleur was still surprised by the gesture.

"She was maybe expecting a proposal but not at that moment. We're coming up to a very busy time. We have The Music Box coming up and this time of year gets so frantic for us. She maybe thought it wouldn't be the first thing on my mind, but it's been on my mind for a few months."

He added: "We've started to think about the wedding, but can't say just yet. We do a lot of organising of shows and things, so hopefully planning the wedding shouldn't be too stressful."

Fleur posted on Facebook yesterday: "I'm a lucky girl. For anyone that knows Peter and I together, they know how brilliant I think he is and how happy he makes me. He totally surprised me with a proposal in Paris after me thinking I had planned all the surprises. It's a big yes, I love you very much. Looking forward to having adventures and laughing together for the rest of our days."
