Sinn Fein condemn 'reckless and brutal' shooting in Belfast

Sinn Fein has condemned the shooting of a man in is 20s in west Belfast.

Police received a report of the shooting around 7.15pm on Friday evening.

The man was shot multiple times in both legs in the Whiterock Drive area of the city.

He is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

Sinn Fein MP Paul Maskey said: "A young man was shot in the legs tonight in the area of Whiterock Drive in west Belfast.

"I condemn this latest shooting. These actions should stop immediately.

"Anyone with information about this attack should bring it forward to the police."

Inspector Laura Kelly said: "At present I have no update on the man’s condition, however, this was a reckless and brutal attack on a defenceless man and must be condemned by all.

“Our investigation is at a very early stage and I would ask anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area this evening or anyone who has any information which could assist us with our enquiries to contact officers at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 1189 19/01/18.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
