Senior Sinn Fein politician Gerry Kelly walked away unscathed from a car crash to get back to the local government election count.
The republican party’s Mr Kelly was driving one of five vehicles hit by a gang of robbers in a getaway car in south Belfast yesterday.
But the re-elected MLA escaped unscathed and promptly returned to the council election count in the city.
The collision — which involved a police car — occurred on the south-bound off-slip of the M1 motorway at the Stockman’s Lane roundabout shortly before 3pm as the gang of robbers made their escape.
Three men were arrested and a sum of money recovered from the vehicle.
