Sinn Fein's O'Dowd responds after party hit with 'slow learners' tag
A DUP MLA has hit out at Sinn Fein over the launch of the party's '#SUAS - Stand Up Against Sectarianism Campaign'.
On Tuesday, DUP MLA Carla Lockhart wrote on Twitter that the party were "slow learners" and that "if only they had been so opposed when they targeted Protestants because of religion".
Earlier this week the republican party launched its campaign with the intention of "raising awareness about, and mobilising popular opposition against sectarianism in society".
Mrs Lockhart did not specify which incident she was referring to, but her tweet was responded to by Sinn Fein's John O'Dowd, who said: "I remember as Minister targeting protestant school children in areas of poverty with more funding. The DUP threatened to bring me to court."
Sinn Fein's John O'Dowd served as Northern Ireland's Minister for Education between 2011 and 2016.
Responding to Mr O'Dowd the DUP MLA said:
Some of those Protestant children grew up without parents thanks to the murderous actions of some of your colleagues.— Carla Lockhart (@carlalockhart) October 18, 2017
I'm well aware of the awful consequences of the conflict, but as the bible says ' let he or she who is free from sin fire the first stone'— John O' Dowd (@JohnODowdSF) October 18, 2017
