Sirocco site plan likely to be approved
A plan to turn the former Sirocco Works in Belfast into a waterside development of offices for 8,000 workers, a hotel and apartments has been recommended for approval.
Belfast City Council's planning committee is to make a final decision on the £400m Waterside masterplan next week after it was given the go-ahead by planning officers.
Developer Osborne+Co has claimed its plans for The Waterside Belfast would revive the city by linking the development with east Belfast and forming a destination for creative and tech businesses.
It would also bring 1,000 jobs during construction.
The scheme includes plans for community, cultural and leisure facilities such as cafes, bars, gym, restaurants and shops, as well as proposals for a bridge across the river.
Last week, youths set fire to an empty two-storey administration building on the site twice in the same day.
