It has been described as "a unique opportunity to regenerate and develop under-utilised land".

Glenarm Primary closed in August 2008.

A new four-star hotel and whiskey distillery are also planned for Glenarm. A visitor experience and community hub are further elements of the proposals for the village after permission was granted for the sale of the council-owned former quarry, fish factory and Eglinton Yard, which had been on the market for £200,000.
