By Allan Preston

A mother from north Belfast has died while on a motorcycle trip with friends in Co Sligo.

Anne Carson, who leaves behind two daughters, Joe-Anne and Lara, was in her 50s and understood to be from the Ballysillan area. It was reported that she was on a trip with her partner and friends when her bike collided with a car on the N16 road near Drumkinsellagh. She was pronounced dead at the scene and shortly afterwards taken to University Hospital in Sligo.

A man in his 50s, who was driving the motorcycle, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. Those in the car were unharmed in the collision.

Last night stunned friends posted their condolences on social media. Molly Gorman wrote: "Such awful personal news, a very dear family friend has been killed in Sligo in a motorbike accident. Anne Carson, my heart is crushed that you had such an untimely and horrific death, she was always game for a laugh."

Louise Mullan said: "God bless and look after Joe-Anne McMullan, Lara and all the family.

A Garda spokesperson has asked anyone with information on the crash to contact Sligo Garda Station on 00 35371-9157000.
