‘Slit throat’ accused refused bail

A man charged with slitting the throat of another man was refused bail when he appeared at Londonderry Magistrate's Court yesterday by videolink.

Jason Grint (22), of Meridian Apartments in John Street, is charged with cutting the man's throat on November 17.

A police officer told the court that there was an altercation in Grint's flat over the death of his brother in March. Grint is alleged to have grabbed the other man by the hair, pulled his head back and slit his throat. The officer said that police were opposed to bail as they felt the injured party could be under threat and that he was a vulnerable person.

She added that an address Grint had given in Larne where he would stay was unacceptable to police as the occupant was known to them.

Deputy District Judge Bernie Kelly refused the application. Grint will appear again by videolink on January 6.
