Snow Patrol are to perform and be honoured at the Oscar Wilde Awards in the US in February.

The event will be held at JJ Abrams' Bad Robot production company in Santa Monica where the Irish singer Roisin O will also perform.

"We are hoping for a strong Irish presence in LA this year," said Trina Vargo, founder and president of the US-Ireland Alliance, which is heavily involved in the awards.

Actor and TV presenter James Corden has already been announced as the recipient of the Honorary Irishman award.

Bangor-born Gary Lightbody, the Snow Patrol lead singer, was recently celebrated for writing the single Chasing Cars which has sold millions of copies.
