Sold, the Antrim loughside restaurant hailed by Jurassic Park star Sam Neill

A well-known Co Antrim restaurant which counts Jurassic Park star Sam Neill among its fans has been sold to new owners.

Whiteabbey spot Bureau By The Lough has been run by husband and wife team Damien and Dana Curran for the last 14 years.

But speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Mr Curran said he had sold the restaurant to focus on his nearby Lighthouse bar and wine business.

He had weathered the treacherous recessionary storm - growing the business from 2008 onwards - during a time that saw the demise of many other pubs and restaurants across Northern Ireland.

Patrons of the award-winning eatery have nothing to fear, as it's understood the new owners - Jeeves Hospitality, which takes over today - will continue to run the popular restaurant as normal.

"I'm very proud of what I have done," said Mr Curran.

"We sustained it despite the recession - we had four years of growth during the recession.

"We have a good offering here.

"The service, the style and the location were all key to the success."

Omagh-born actor and wine maker Neill described the view from Bureau By The Lough as one of the best to be seen from any restaurant in the world during a visit in 2012.

The business includes a seafood restaurant, as well as a cafe bar.

But after 14 years at the helm, Mr Curran said it was "time to give someone else a crack at it".

"I'm very emotionally attached to the business and building, and I'm very proud of the customer support," he explained.

The restaurant's 25 staff will be kept on with the transfer of ownership.

Mr Curran said selling the restaurant would give him time to "sink his teeth" into his specialist bar and wine and beer shop, Lighthouse, which is located just metres away from Bureau By The Lough.
