Son charged with murder of pensioner Mulligan found dead in car in Lisburn

A 44-year-old man has been charged with the murder of pensioner Gerard Mulligan, whose body was found in a car at his home in Lisburn on Monday.

The man, also called Gerard Mulligan and understood to be Mr Mulligan’s son, is due to appear at Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.

He was arrested after the victim, in his late 60s, was discovered dead at his home on Limehurst Way in Lisburn just after 4pm on Monday.

A postmortem was due to be carried out on Wednesday.

Sources at the scene said he was shot dead.

The murder suspect was taken to hospital for treatment where he has remained under police guard.

Detectives have said they did not suspect paramilitary involvement.
