South Belfast groups celebrate funding

By Anthony Finnegan

Several south Belfast community groups are celebrating after being awarded funding by Belfast City Council.

It is hoped the funding will be used to support and strengthen local efforts to enhance and improve the quality of life within the respected neighbourhoods.

Gerard Rice, from the Lower Ormeau Residents’ Action Group, said: “This funding will be very useful in highlighting services available from the Shaftesbury Community Recreational Centre. It has been timely in that we have just completed our £2.3 million extension which offers facilities such as a third generation synthetic grass pitch and a substantial fitness suite.

“The grant will go a long way in helping us to get the message out to the wider south Belfast area about the facilities that are available.” Other groups that received funding include An Droichead Afterschools and Haven Victims’ Support Group.
