St George's Market Belfast seeks votes for Britain's best market awards

by James Gant

Belfast City Council have renewed calls for people to vote for St George's Market as Britain's favourite in 2019.

The council website posted: "Spread the word and encourage as many people as possible to cast a vote for St George's Market to be crowned the best in Britain."

The awards, run by the National Association of British Market Authorities, gives prizes across a number of categories for markets in the United Kingdom.

They use a polling system as well as a focus on 'collaboration, community focus and cuisine' to decide the winners.

St George’s won best large indoor market in the 2014 awards.

In the 2018 awards, the best community/parish market went to Naturally North Coast and Glens - a roving market which moves across Northern Ireland.

Its next pop up market is at the Wild Winter Festival in Balleymena's Eco Centre from 12pm on Saturday.

Britain's favourite market at the 2018 awards in January was Shrewsbury Market Hall in Shropshire.

Voting can be done online at before November 30.
