Staff at a coffee shop in Northern Ireland have been overwhelmed by messages of support and donations received after a woman lifted their tip jar.

It happened at Creed Coffee, in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

CCTV footage showed the woman walk up to the counter make a glance around before lifting the tip jar and walking off.

Manager Shezzell Horner said the jar held around £100 and it was half full at the time. She said it was not until last Monday that they realised it had vanished.

"You don't think someone could have taken it," she told the Belfast Telegraph, "but then we watched the footage back and we couldn't believe what we saw."

Since posting the footage on Facebook hundreds of thousands of people have watched it.

"We have girls working for us who come straight from school, they work hard and the tips may not be much, but it's something for them," added Shezzell.

"Since posting it we have been overwhelmed by the reaction. After we paid our window cleaner he put the money straight into the tip jar and other regulars have been very generous."

The post showing the incident on the coffee shop's Facebook page was viewed over 260,000 times before it was taken down.
