Hugely popular Radio Ulster star Hugo Duncan has opened his heart about the troubles that have engulfed him over the past year.

In an emotional and frank interview in the Belfast Telegraph's Weekend magazine today the country performer known to fans as 'The Wee Man from Strabane' reveals his anguish at watching beloved only daughter Suzanne battle bowel cancer.

Grandfather Hugo (68), who was declared bankrupt last December, broke down as he admitted: "The bankruptcy thing was tough.

"But the big problem was my daughter dealing with ill-health. That put everything else into perspective."

Mother-of-four Suzanne (47) had been dealing with a series of health issues since 2016 but last September was diagnosed with cancer and told she was being admitted to hospital immediately for surgery. She has just completed her eighth cycle of chemotherapy.

Speaking ahead of the launch of his brilliant new weekly country music column in the Belfast Telegraph next Friday, Hugo also praised the care that Suzanne had received at Altnagelvin Hospital. He said: "Her treatment has been second to none.

In the wide-ranging conversation, Hugo also talks about the highs and lows of his career and his battle with alcoholism.
