Stepfather of young girl is charged with sexual abuse
The stepfather of a young girl has been remanded in custody accused of a four-year campaign of sexual abuse culminating in rape and assault.
The accused, who is in his forties and from Co Tyrone, cannot be named to protect the identity of the child.
He appeared before Dungannon Magistrates Court yesterday charged with four counts of rape and single counts each of assault, sexual touching and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
It is alleged the offending began in April 2013 until last month, when the child spoke up and the PSNI took action.
There had been an indication the accused would apply for bail, but a defence solicitor explained no suitable address was found.
District Judge John Meehan remanded the defendant in custody to appear by video-link next month.
