Strabane security alert ends after suspicious device is declared a hoax
A security alert in Strabane has ended after a suspicious object was declared to be a hoax.
Detectives have appealed for witnesses to come forward after a hoax device was left in the area of St Mary's Drive/Beechmount Avenue shortly before 5pm on Saturday.
A number of homes had to be evacuated as the bomb squad examined the device.
Detective Sergeant Richard Donnell said: “The object was quite large and located in a busy area, so we are hopeful that someone may have seen something to assist in our enquiries.
"I am appealing for people to check their dash cams if they were in the area between 4pm-5pm yesterday. Anyone with any information can contact detectives at Strand Road on 101 quoting reference 1379 01/06/19.”
