Strangford Lough stolen bench 'a cruel blow'

Cruel thieves have stolen a memorial bench placed at the favourite spot of a Co Down hunter - who died in March of last year - on the shores of Strangford Lough.

Bangor man David Black has been incensed by the callous crime which happened on the first anniversary of the death of his father Nelson, a founder member of the Newtownards Wildfowlers Association, who paid for the memorial.

“A couple of weeks ago one of the wildfowlers got in touch with me; he’d been in the area and spotted that the bench was gone. It had been ripped off its fixings. It was completely gone. This was just two days before my dad’s first anniversary,” Mr Black told the Co Down Spectator.

“We’re all devastated to see this happen. We can’t work out how anyone could be capable of doing it,” added Sandy Ritchie, who discovered the bench had gone missing.
