Strip show in seaside pub ruffles feathers
A pub in Ballycastle has caused upset with the announcement that it will host a strip show this November and December.
‘Angels2Devils’ are set to get pulses racing at Castle Bar in the town with male, female and plus size strip acts on the agenda, but one local councillor, Joan Baird, says it’s a bad move for women and the town.
“I feel women have enough problems achieving equality and this sort of thing only serves to give a very flippant view. I had the view that my electorate would not be happy — people think it’s wrong and it gives Ballycastle a bad image,” she said.
The event, which has been approved by the council, is just a bit of fun says its producer ‘Alfie’: “It’s just lighthearted adult entertainment. If you’re not into it then don’t go. We don’t want to offend. I think this country needs to be brought forward a wee bit.”
Independent councillor Randal McDonnell said: “If people want to engage in daft and silly behaviour that’s fine... if they are degrading their lives with alcohol why not let them degrade themselves with something like this.”
