Student held over breach of sexual offences order
A stundent at the North West College of Technology has been remanded in custody charged with breaching the terms of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order by sending four text messages to two female students.
Stuart Townsend, of Parkmore Road in Magherafelt, appeared at Londonderry Magistrate's Court yesterday.
District Judge Barney McElholm was told by a police officer that in September 2009 the 19-year-old hospitality student was banned from using a mobile phone under the terms of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
The officer said the texts were reported by the students, who were not aware of the order, to the college, which informed police.
Remanding the defendant in custody, Mr McElholm said he had already breached the terms of the order in November and December.
The defendant will appear in court again on February 2.
