Final goodbyes will be said tomorrow to a much-loved mother and lecturer from Co Antrim.

Mother-of-three Dr Madeleine Lombard from Lambeg died suddenly on Tuesday leaving her husband Michael, and children Anna, Peter and John, heartbroken.

An English teacher of many years, Dr Lombard was remembered by colleagues and students at St Mary's University College, Belfast, in an emotional mass yesterday.

A highly experienced lecturer who had a passion for drama, poetry and literature, Dr Lombard had formerly been a teacher at St John the Baptist Primary in Dunmurry where she taught music.

Tributes to the "kind-hearted lecturer" who was also described "as a legend" were led online by St Mary's Students' Union, Belfast who posted: "It is with great sadness that we are informed of the sudden death of Dr Madeleine Lombard (RIP), our esteemed friend and colleague, who died today, May 3, 2016.

"May we extend our heartfelt sympathy to her husband Michael, children and her entire family circle at this very difficult time.

"Madeleine was an esteemed member of staff and valuable and well respected lecturer, colleague and friend within the English department. Rest in peace, Madeleine."

A Requiem Mass will be held for Dr Lombard in St Anne's Church, Kingsway, tomorrow at 11am.
