'Substantial' cache of firearms and ammo seized in Northern Ireland town - man arrested

Police have seized a "substantial" amount of firearms and ammunition in Ballymena as part of an investigation into organised crime.

Searches were carried out in the Co Antrim town which resulted in the munitions find as well as a quantity of Class A drugs. A man (25) was later arrested in Belfast.

Detective Inspector Chris Millar said: “The search and arrest operation has removed a substantial number of firearms and ammunition from the streets which again demonstrates our ongoing commitment to keep people safe by removing anything which can harm our communities.

“I have no doubt that lives have been saved as these weapons can only inflict serious damage either through death or horrific injuries.

“I would appeal to the public to let police know of any organised criminality happening in their communities – together we can tackle this blight on our society.”
