Sun-seekers are out for the hottest day of the year

By Staff Reporter

Local sun worshippers flocked to beaches yesterday for the hottest day of the year so far.

The heatwave is set to continue today, and it could get even warmer, with temperatures predicted to reach 25C.

The Met Office said it would be a dry day with plenty of sunshine, some patchy cloud and a moderate breeze.

The highest temperatures will be across western counties and the north coast. Shore winds will make it cooler on the east coast.

Much of the UK has been basking in sunshine and clear skies for the last few days.

But anyone hoping for a scorching bank holiday may be disappointed, as forecasters predict temperatures will start to drop tomorrow - with a chance of rain and thunderstorms throughout the long weekend.

The outlook for Sunday and Monday, meanwhile, is cooler with sunny spells.
