Suspicious fire at north Belfast shop

By Amanda Ferguson

Police are appealing for witnesses following a suspicious fire at business premises in the Clifton Street area of north Belfast last night.

At around 11.50pm the PSNI received a report that a shop was on fire.

The premises were badly damaged as a result but there were no reported injuries.

Detective constable Gareth Hussey said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact detectives at Tennant Street on the non emergency number 101.

"Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
