A Nazi flag has been spotted flying on a mast at a boys' Catholic school in west Belfast.

The red, black and white banner with a swastika at its centre was seen on the flagpole at De La Salle College in the Andersonstown area.

West Belfast Sinn Fein election candidate Paul Maskey said he had heard about it from constituents. He said he didn't believe it had anything to do with the election as the school was not being used as a polling station, and he didn't think it was anything more sinister.

"I heard about it but didn't see it myself. I think some of the sixth formers were leaving today and that it was put up as a prank - that's the way it was explained to me."
