Talks with teaching unions 'constructive'
The Education Authority has described its first formal talks with teachers' unions over pay since last October as "constructive".
Members of the Northern Ireland Teaching Council (NITC) met with management yesterday to discuss the ongoing industrial action that has hit schools.
The NITC, which represents the five teachers' unions here, and management agreed to exchange discussion papers and to meet again on Tuesday, January 24.
The largest of the unions in Northern Ireland, the NASUWT, staged a one-day walkout in Belfast and Newtownabbey in November.
Further rolling strikes are planned for this month and next, including a walkout on January 31 at schools across Derry city, Strabane, Mid Ulster, Fermanagh and Omagh.
A second teachers' union, INTO, is planning to stage a half-day strike next Wednesday.
