Tall order as Ireland's highest pub The Ponderosa Bar gets facelift
Ireland's highest pub is set for a facelift after it was granted planning approval for a conversion and extension.
The new facilities at The Ponderosa Bar, Dungiven, will include a coffee shop, kitchen, toilet facilities, smoking area and relocation of the off-licence.
The Ponderosa is situated more than 900ft above sea level on the Glenshane Pass, the main road from Londonderry to Belfast, and enjoys tremendous views of the Sperrins.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said: "This is a boost for the Dungiven area and provides upgraded facilities for this tourist hotspot.
"Decisions like this support my vision for a stronger economy through the promotion of tourism."
