Taxi driver attacked by passenger

A taxi driver has been attacked by his passenger after taking two men from the city centre to west Belfast.

He picked up the men at Castle Street shortly before 1am on Friday before being asked to stop on the Monagh Bypass near an alley leading to Aitnamona.

The back seat passenger grabbed the driver around the neck choking him.

He got out of the car, opened the driver's door and began to punch and kick him. Both passengers escaped down the alleyway.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have been travelling on the Monagh Bypass around this time or anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
