Taxi driver hijacked at knifepoint in west Belfast

A taxi driver has been hijacked at knifepoint by two young men in west Belfast.

The two men went to the taxi office on the Falls Road and took the taxi to Lower Cupar Street at approximately 5.20am on Wednesday January 21.

They then drew knives on the driver.

The driver got out of the car and the two men drove off in it.

The car was later found abandoned in the St Peters Court area. A sum of cash and a mobile phone had been taken.

Inspector George Mercer said: "I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to contact Woodbourne Police Station on the non emergency number 101.

"Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
