Teen accused of police assaults

An 18-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing at Limavady Magistrates Court charged with possessing a knife, five assaults on police, one of resisting police, two charges of damaging a police vehicle and one charge of attempting to wound a man.

Corey McMullan, whose address was given as First Housing, 63 Francis Street, Londonderry, was charged with the offences that allegedly occurred on April 26.

McMullan was connected to the charges by a police officer who said police were opposing bail on the grounds that the man he was alleged to have tried to wound was known to the defendant, and also the fact that the offences were committed while he was on bail for another charge.

A defence solicitor said that apart from the possession of the knife and the wounding charges, the rest of the offences would be admitted. McMullan was remanded in custody to appear again on May 4.
