Teen cyclist hit by car ‘critical’

A 14-year-old boy was fighting for his life in hospital last night after being hit by a car outside Lisburn.

The teenager was on his bicycle when he was hit by the car on the Knockmore Road shortly after 6.40pm.

He was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital with serious injuries.

Last night a hospital spokesperson said he was in a critical condition.

The road between Prince William Road and Ballymacash Road was closed to traffic for several hours as police investigated the scene.

DUP MLA Jonathan Craig said he hoped the young boy would make a full |recovery.

“When it is a young person it makes it even more difficult to deal with and my thoughts and sympathies are with this family,” he said.
