Teen held after woman raped in Randalstown released

A 17-year-old man arrested by detectives investigating the rape of a woman in Randalstown, Co Antrim has been released on bail pending further police enquiries.

The woman aged in her 30s reported the serious sexual assault to police in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident took place in the New Street area of the town at around 2am.

Detective Inspector Ciaran Whoriskey said: “Our investigation into this incident is ongoing and I would continue to appeal to anyone who was in the New Street area of Randalstown at around 2am on Saturday morning, and who may have information which could assist our investigation, to contact detectives at Ladas Drive on 101 quoting reference number 243 03/06/17.”
