Teen in hospital after machete-armed gang attack in Newry

A teenager is in hospital after he was attacked by a machete-wielding gang during a burglary in Newry.

It happened at a house on Talbot Street during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

It was reported that shortly after 2.15am a number of males armed with machetes forced their way into a property and attacked the male occupant.

The 17-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment for an injury to his nose and large cuts to his arm and leg as a result of the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Will Tate is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Ardmore Police Station on 101 quoting reference 236 05/06/18. Or, alternatively information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
