Teen seriously injured in 'brutal and horrific' Bangor attack - paramilitaries suspected

By Jonathan Bell

A teenager has been seriously injured in an attack described by police as "brutal and horrific".

Paramilitaries are thought to be involved.

The 19-year-old is recovering in hospital with injuries to his arms and legs described as non life-threatening.

It happened just before 9pm on Friday night when two men attacked the teenager at the rear of the Kilcooley shops in the Ballynoe Gardens area.

It's understood paramilitary involvement is a strong line of enquiry for police officers.

"Whilst these injuries are not life threatening, this was a brutal and horrific attack on a young man," said a police spokesman.

"Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact them in Bangor Police Station on 101 quoting reference number 1448 of 01/12/17. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
