Teen speeder who fled PSNI at 110mph may be jailed

By Nevin Farrell

A teen driver who bolted from police at a speed of up to 110mph in Co Antrim claimed he didn't stop because he had "just put red diesel" in his fuel tank.

Niall McAllister (19), of Glen Road, Glenariffe, made off from the PSNI along the Moorfields Road near Ballymena and at one stage did 80mph through Moorfields village, where the speed limit is 40mph.

A prosecutor told Ballymena Magistrates Court police considered the chase too dangerous and abandoned it, but later tracked McAllister down.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and other motoring offences.

Asking for a pre-sentence report, District Judge Peter King warned McAllister the standard of driving could put his liberty in question, and imposed an interim driving ban.

The case was adjourned until later this month.
