A Dungiven teenager who brandished a knife at his mother and threatened to kill her has been found dead.
A post mortem on the body of Daniel McShane, who celebrated his 19th birthday last Friday, will be carried out today.
Mr McShane was found dead shortly after midnight on Monday night. Police are not treating his death as suspicious.
Sinn Fein councillor Marion Donaghy, who knew Mr McShane well, said she was “saddened” by his sudden death.
She said: “Danny had an underlying condition since he was a young boy that he was on medication for, but this is such a sad end to what was a life full of tragedy.
“His father Danny was killed in a road accident when young Danny was just a wee boy and it can't have been easy on him growing up with that, but he was a bubbly, upbeat wee fella.
“When I heard he had been in court for attacking his mother I was shocked because it was just so out of character for the Danny I knew.”
Mr McShane appeared in the High Court charged with the attack on his mother in January.
The teenager was said to be ashamed and embarrassed by the episode.
