Teenage girl struck in face by stranger in Tates Avenue area of south Belfast

A teenage girl was punched in the face by a stranger who tried to kiss her on a street.

Police are appealing for information after the assault in the Tates Avenue area of south Belfast on Saturday.

A PSNI spokesman the 18-year-old was walking along Tates Avenue around 10pm when she was approached by an unknown man who attempted to kiss her before punching her in the face.

She suffered swelling to her forehead as a result.

The man is described as being approximately 5ft 7ins tall, of athletic build, with short black hair and swarthy skin.

He was wearing a white hooded jacket, black jeans and white trainers with red flashes. He made off towards the Lisburn Road.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with information to contact them at Musgrave PSNI station.

They are particularly keen to hear from a blonde-haired woman who stopped with the female a short time after the incident.
